New rear diff cover question
Has anyone purchased/installed a new rear (aftermarket) diff cover?
The advertisements say having the drain plug higher helps make your rear end last longer. Any truth to this?
I love my ride and am trying to do anything possible to keep it running longer. Plus, Michigan winters have been hard on the cover!
Also, with a threaded screw instead of a rubber plug, is there any danger for increased pressures in the casing?
I'm not a "rear-end" guy...

There's already a vent on the axle tube. So no there's no pressure. And you said "Drain plug" Higher? Do they mean higher fill plug? so it holds more fluid like say a half a quart. Got a link to this?

Yeah, sorry, i mean 'fill' plug. Mispoke myself.

There are, of course, many different models and brands.
Either way, I'm thinking about a new cover, because mine is beat to heck.
I'm actually afraid that when I take it off, with the rust damage, that it might crack.
Thanks for any input.
The advertisements also say, as well as a few rifts I read, that the covers also strengthen your axle, reducing sag and stiffening it.
Truth?

i doubt more fluid in your diff prolongs the life of your gears. your rear end is like everything else, proper maintenance and it should last as long as it's "designed" to. an aftermarket diff will, however, protect the diff. internals from externally caused damage...
as far as strengthening the diff/axle this holds some truth in that it stiffens the pumpkin moderatly, but wont affect things such as sag of your axle tubes...
