Default Tranny Issue

My 1996 does something similar only different. How's that for a conflict! Sometimes while cruising in 4th gear with lockup it will suddenly shift into third and get stuck. The only cure is to immediately pull over, turn ignition off and then back on and the jeep will run perfect again for a week or so, then do it again with the same result. Been to my friends trans shop three times. Gives a code that says shift selenoid issue. All selenoids have been replaced, trans flushed and new filter. Still does the same thing. More inconvenience than anything. No slippage, no burnt fluid, no idea what may be happening. Wiring harness has been checked and found good. Shop suggests possible onboard computer issue. Could be yours as well. Has anyone else experienced this type issue.

DO NOT GET YOUR TRANNY FLUSHED!!!! It does not make old trannys happy!!! It can and will make your tranny go out!! You need the particulates that are floating around inside your tranny, they keep it from slipping. If you "flush" them out, it will slip and fail. Just do a filter and fluid change, and don't drain the converter. Leave the fluid that's in there alone!! HTH!! Ask around about the flush thing, and you'll see what I mean, later!!

Yeah X2 on your flush. Never flush an older tranny. Unless you have been doing a flush from the first fluid change until today you will end up with a slipping tranny. Just change fluids and filter. There is even a school of thought that says don't even change the filter but I don't agree with that way of thinking.

I've heard the same thing. To me, it would make the fluid flow less restrictive, thus harder, better shifts. That's just the way I see it, could be wrong!!
