Default Resistor

Does any one know how hot the Porcelain Resistor is supposed to get. It is located on the front left hand fender by the air box, and it was used on the earlier 4 LTRs, I think its for the fuel pump. I know a resistor generates heat because it is a resisting current, this one left a mark on my arm when I was attempting to clean the electric fan switch. Thank you for any info, and please don't burn yourself to find out, lol.

One of the reasons it's made out of porcelain is that it gets very hot. I touched one years ago and had one of my fingerprints burnt off while hearing a very short-duration 'fryin-bacon-sizzlin-sound' till I real-quickly pulled back with smoke rising in the air for a second or so. Didn't take me long to realize that wasn't the right thing to do... and I ain't done it since.

Sorry, I also meant to say that you're right... it's the ballast resistor for the fuel pump.

Thank you for the reply, with the issue i'm having with cooling system being a closed system and getting ready to convert to an open one I don't need anything else to deal with right now. Thank you very much.

You're welcome, some unknown previous owner of the jeep I now own converted it to an open system while it was theirs. Works okay for me like it is. Good luck!
