Default Repower for a 1991 Cherokee Larado

My 1991 Cherokee larado 4.0 ho gave up the ghost at 234k. I have a line on a 4.0 Jasper engine in a 1996 Gran cherokee with 30k on it.
Guy is asking 1000.00 for the motor, tranny, xfer case.

My question is will the motor go in my 1991 Cherokee with no problems and what computer issues will there be if any.

Sure would beat forking over 2500.00 to have mine over hauled.

thanks

S

some of the grand cherokee blocks are different then the cherokee blocks. I have seen alot that will not bolt up to each other make sure you check into that before spending the money on it and it not working

This should take some of the mystery out of it:

XJ
Cherokee and ZJ Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine blocks interchange.

2000+ TJ Wrangler and WJ Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine blocks interchange.

XJ/ZJ blocks and 2000+ TJ/WJ blocks do not interchange without significant modifications. (1997-1999 4.0L TJ Wrangler blocks will interchange in XJ/ZJ and visa-versa).

TJ/WJ 4.0L Engine blocks underwent clean sheet design changes effective in the 1999 WJ Grand and 2000 TJ Wrangler. These blocks are not interchangeable with XJ/ZJ engine blocks. The reason is motor mount bolt holes and belt driven accessory mounting bolt holes are in different locations, or not present at all, TJ/WJ vs. XJ/ZJ.
