It varies....general rule of thumb is 10 psi per 1K rpm minimum.

What about getting the water out that remains in the block ater youve flushed it? Is there a specific amount that remains so that you can base your coolant dilution on?

Very little water will remain in the block when the water pump is removed. I always refill the system with 1 gallon of straight coolant 1st, then finish up with 50/50.

If you really want to clean out the water jacket of the block, the freeze plugs can be removed.

This will allow you to clean rusty metal shavings that may have been left there during original factory machining.

Use a garden hose & a wire coat hanger to clean between the plug openings.

It's a lot of extra work, but worth it if your engine had been running hotter than it should be.

Replace the freeze plugs with brass plugs if you can get them.

Doesn't both the intake and exhaust manifolds need to be removed to access the freeze plugs?
