Default Replacing muffler

I'm replacing my muffler with a walker replacement. The muffler inlet is slight larger than the pipe coming off the catalytic convert so it slides onto the pipe. My question is what kind of clamp should I use? If I use a u clamp will it crimp the pipe and I won't be able to remove the muffler if I have to replace again? The outlet is slightly larger as well so the tail pipe slides in, but I'm assuming a u clamp is okay there since usually tailpipe and muffler are replaced together. Thanks

If you are worried about it you could always use a cutoff wheel on a grinder to make a slit up each side of the pipe so you can spread it some if you need to take it off.

my tailpipes last longer than the mufflers

just use u clamps, hammer, patience and as mentioned slit up the side helps with removal when its time.

I had a bit of a time with mine, (x2). Yea they don't match up well. I gas weld mine and needed to find different sleeves and such just to get it close. Welding is good, and you should not need to be back there soon. If you can get it fit pretty close, and clean, a muffler, (or other) shop might come back and weld it pretty affordabley. Welding is sort of fun, the rest is not much fun at all. ($30 for 10 minutes welding will buy lunch, and a 12"r too!)

Chuck those old U clamps and get some lap band clamps. No exhaust leaks either, as long as you get the right size and torque them down tight. There is 2 choices, one is kind of offset and the other style is a flat band that forms the fit as you tighten them down. Google images will give a better idea.
