My '98 factory radio/cassette unit has 2 (red arrows) of its 11 little blue illumination bulbs burned out. Does anyone know where to get replacements and how to install them? I've found some info online, but it's for not quite the same radio, and it appears the bulbs are a different style. These look like they're soldered directly to the board, so they might be LEDs, but I'm not certain.
They do look soldered. I would have to get up close to see. If they're bulbs under blue filters then they're these. https://www.amazon.com/CEC-Industrie...dp/B00L8BR76A/ Can I see the backside of the board where they connect?
Here's one last picture of the bulb with the blue cover removed. It sure does look incandescent. It also looks like the brown "socket" part is what's actually soldered to the board, so perhaps the bulb can be replaced more easily.
Ok, so yeah def those bulbs I listed. The brown will have to be desoldered to change the bulb. Its weird how they did that. Other radios have the usual twist socket bulbs in them.
I'd bet that's a good match. I used those on an 06 Equinox and you just had to thread them into the existing twist-in socket. Measure the current on an existing good one to be sure. Try gently prying up on the brown piece and make sure they don't just slide up and off first.
Good news! The brown base does not need to be desoldered. It just pops off, and the bulb can simply be replaced in the base with some careful cutting and bending of the wire leads.
