Default Factory Radio light problems

I just bought a mint 92 XJ laredo and I want to keep it stock. I noticed the LCD clock backlight for the radio isn't turning on with the headlights. all the other parts of the radio is lighting up. Is there any way to replace the bulb if there is one or am I SOL?

On a lot of the older radios they had a light bulb inside the radio . to change it or to check it you need to remove the radio and open it up and if it has a bulb you can change it . sometimes you have to wire the new one in .

On many early radios, there was a light bulb built into the unit. To change it or examine it, remove the radio and open it up; if the radio has a bulb, you may replace it. You may need to connect the new one in at times.

Can you elaborate? How do you open the radio?

I'm with you on this one Cruizer..... most head units are assembled new never to have serviceable parts inside. I'm guessing if you're ultra careful, you might find a way to take the face-plate portion off and at least investigate. But you also risk damaging the unit and making it non-functional... so to the OP... just weigh the pros and cons to you and then roll with it.

I was just about to post that link because it had an Amazon link for the most likely bulb replacement.
Amazon Amazon

Open was an over-simplification. With a little skill and patience, you can disassemble the radio and get to the bulbs. Taking pictures as you go and keeping the screws organized are key. I've repaired many similar radios and hvac controls that had blown bulbs. Most were in removable holders and you just had to thread the new bulb in, no soldering required.
