Default Replacing Calipers question!!

okay i replaced my calipers yesterday and everything went smooth, i ve done calipers in other cars but not a charokee .. but that doesnt make me an pro by any means.

anyhow, when the car is off the brake padel operate fine, and when its on then it hits the floor, so that means there is air in the system and i gotta bleed the system, okay i m good up to here

now i start doing that today and i notice the brake lines on the front of the car is leaking the brake fluid i put last night, and the book says i have to torque them to 23lb, and thats what i have them on, and when i use a reqular wrench, they are tight as f#ck, so not sure if i should torque it to a higher number ??

also do i have to bleed the rear lines since they dont have calipers on them ?? my car is a 2wd xj 6.0

now let me sum this up, i need to know how do i stop the leak from around the bolt that holds the brake line to the caliper ? and if i need to do the rear.

p.s. : when i tried to bleed the front one further to the master cylinder, nothing came out, no fluid or anything. and i went to the front closest to the master and nothing either. and the leak only happen when the car is running and the padel is to the floor
thanks in advanced guys

I just did calipers this week too..
Did you use the washers (I assume brass or copper) that came with the lines?
I didn't torque mine, just used the washers, and cranked them down. No leaks.
When you bled them, did you bleed them at the line, or the caliper bleeder port?
I'm a n00b with Jeep too, but just did mine, so it's fresh in my mind.

do you use one or two washers on the brake line bolt ?? because when i took it off, it only had one in it on the outside side, do i need a washer on the inside too ??

okay now i did the washers on both sides and the leak is gone, but the calipers are still stuck ?? does that mean that there is still air in it ?? or i need to use the c-clamp idea to compress the caliper ?? like when i change the break pads

sounds like you have a ton of air in the system.

are the calipers on the correct sides? are the bleeders above the brake lines?
i would bleed from the rear forward, starting at the wheel cylinder furthest away from the master cylinder, so right rear, left rear, right front, left front.

cheers.

Slightly off subject, but calipers rarely are the culprit. Every time i replaced calipers it ended up being something else. It was a old line acting as a one way valve. Or on this cherokee it was notches in my steering knuckle causing the pads to only hit the top of the rotor surface. So after you bleed them check for the original problem. What was the original problem???
