Default replaced oil filter adapter o rings

as title states. just did this. the big o ring was very brittle, as anticipated. the 2 on the bolt were fine. I changed them all anyhow.

saw what everyone fusses about regarding room to remove the bolt. I took that bolt out of the frame rail right by it just to get a bit of extra room. removed oil filter. ended up buying a 3/8 drive t60 socket w "removable" torx insert. I used a hammer and punch; it came right out. put a 12mm wrench on the opposite end of the torx side after it was in the bolt. had to put a jack handle on the wrench to break it free. I saw no thread sealant or anything on the bolt that some have stated. I did put med lock tite on it upon reassembly.

you mopar fanboys will be glad to know I used a mopar oil filter haha

I used a 5/8 wrench. No problem. I also replaced the metric oil filter spigot with a standard thread part so I can use a regular oil filter. I have a Motorcraft FL 2000 on right now.

flippin awesome. means my XJ and my 87 Thunderbird use the same one, wont have to keep a variety of filters around

EDIT: just did some quick research and found that the FL400S that my wife's 93 Escort specs can be swapped out for a Fl-1A as well.

just want to add to this..

I used a universal oring kit the first go round. the big one was orange. don't do this.

a month or so i noticed a fairly substantial oil leak. i was dumbfounded and super pist at my discovery, given all of the gaskets I've changed and the fact i had no oil leaks for a few weeks.

the oring i had used on the OFA was the culprit. apparently it sealed fine when it was new, but as time went on i guess the heat cycles and general compression squished it enough it no longer worked. i bought a jeep OFA specific oring, visibly thicker, and replaced the orange pos today. no leaks.

I did the same thing. The large orange O-ring does not work. Had to get the o ring set from a Jeep dealer and that fixed my leak right up.
