So in reference to the coolant temp sensor (i.e. the one on the side of the block, not the sending unit for the dash gauge that is on top) of my Renix, mine has become disoconnected at some point during its life. The terminals on the end of the actuall sensor are pretty corroded, and inside of the recepticle that plugs on top of the terminals is nastied up with like a blue colored sealant, or at least im guessing its sealant. Im gonna replace the sensor, but my real question is A. how should i go about cleaning out the plug? and B. do i need to do something similar, like seal up the plug or the connection?

the blue gunk is more than likely rtv. some people use it to seal electrical connectors for off-roading to prevent mud and water from getting in there. use a pick or tiny screwdriver to dig out what you can then plug it in to check if it works.
