I just bought the rugged ridge tune up kit. It came with champion plugs I believe.

From my understanding and if I am not mistaken NGK is recommended for 1999-2001. And Champion is recommended for anything older. If I am wrong, Someone please chime in.

You are correct. I'd follow these guidelines since that is what came from the factory

Champion copper. I have platinums in right now and it runs fine for me, but go with copper first. I only got platinums because the copper wasn't in stock and I needed plugs bad.

I made the mistake of buy the platinum plugs for my 98 and it ran like hell. 2 days later I bought champion copper and it ran like a dream. That is just my experience with the platinum plugs. If the work for you great!

Yeah I'm just curious, why is it that it could be negative to use the platinum-iridium-zirconium-technetium fusion plugs in these motors? Like what is it about the spark or plug that causes negative effects? I have platinums and it has run on platinums for the last 10 years (at least that long, and admittedly its not running the best (89'), even with a full tuneup and new platinum plugs[this was before I joined CF]) but the champion coppers are pretty cheap so I might have to go put some of these in and see if there is a difference! I understand that it was designed for coppers from factory etc, but any input would be great! Quite curious about this one

I've always been curious about the difference too honestly. Right now it runs fine for me. I don't even remember what kind of plugs it had before. They were fried though. In a few months I'll probably get some coppers when I get money to do other performance mods. Right now I just need the jeep to get me around in one piece.
