The switch between the BA-10 and AX-15 was mid-89 or whenever they ran out of parts...
I had 140k on my first one and now 121k on my second... Hopefully I will have an AX-15 in time for the next failure.

BOTH are vastly superior to the BA-10. The two main problems with the Frog box are:
1) The synchronisers are aluminum. Fine for lightweight vehicles (it was designed for the Peugeot 505,) but not for trucks.
2) The gears are actually too hard for the truck application. Most failures are usually first and second gear being stripped on the countershaft.

I love my 88 too. I have beat the snot out of it and it is still a great rig to my surprise. I'm sure I have a few things I should fix but it is a dependable dd.
