Don't brush off the Renix, it was very advanced for its time and still does now what it did as well as it did then. One advantage Renix has over Chrysler MPFI is it will run the timing curve as advanced as possible without knock. Another advantage is it is more forgiving of engine and exhaust mods.

Renault - Bendix Renault owned AMC back then. The EFI they used was a joint venture between Renault and Bendix. It was supplied to other car makers in Europe and It was what Jeep used in the XJ from 1987 until Chrysler Multi point EFI replaced it in 1991.

I know a guy who daily drives his 88 XJ (it's his only vehicle), obviously Renix-era, and has for the couple years that I've known him. It still runs great.

I DD mine as well. Needs about as much upkeep as any other XJ. Super reliable, and when it wasn't we called AAA

My toy is a 99 Cherokee and my reliable daily is an 87 comanche. It doesn't always run perfect (usually my fault), but so far it hasn't left me stranded. It takes some getting used to, but it's not a bad system.
