Default Removing E-Brake lines?

Hey guys,
I've looked everywhere for an idea of how to get the E-brake out of this dang thing and I just can't figure it out. I'm trying to remove the cables attached to the bracket but can't seem to figure out how to pop them off that bracket? Any advice?

Thanks,
JJ

A bit more info would help!
For your '91 or for the '99 you're parting out?

Well are you looking at removing the line for the e-brake handle itself or the lines for the L/R and R/R drum brakes?

Alright then let me try to keep this simple as possible. I have a '98 Cherokee and I'm sure it's the same for the '99.

For the e-brake handle:
Take the center console apart, it's pretty easy and self explanatory. There are plenty of write-ups on this that you can find. Once this is removed, you will need a 1/2"(I believe) socket to remove everything under the the console.

Once you get the the handle loosened, DO NOT pull on it!

Jump underneath the vehicle and you will need to loosen and remove the e-brake equalizer, which is on the driver side that looks like this:

...more than likely it is seized. Spray it down with some PB Blaster! It's a pain, trust me!!!

You should remove the equalizer first before removing the lines hooked into the box.

While looking in the e-brake box underneath the vehicle you will notice that the line from the e-brake handle drops from the inside of the cab into the front side of this box. You will also notice that on the other end of the box the two rear brake lines tie in as well. These brake lines are locked into the box by 3 tabs on the line. You need to push these tabs in at the same time to pull the cable out of the box. Go ahead and do the rear brake lines as well.

For the rear brakes:
To remove the rear brakes just you have to do the same thing on the other end of the cable with the 3 tabs, but in order to this you need to take apart the rear drums (another write-up that you can find if you haven't done it). Once you have taken the rear drum brakes apart you will see where the other end of that cable is tied in the rears. That's it.

If you have anymore more questions or issues just let me know.

V/r,
-Gray.

Thanks Gary. I was having trouble getting the ends out of the equalizer. To loosen that up, I just slide the wrench over the long stud and onto the bolt, and twist that bolt off?

Thanks again for all the help,
JJ

Loosen the nut of the long bolt and it will loosen the tension on all 3 brake cables. Once the tension is released you can then slide the lines from the equalizer and then remove the cables from the e-brake box by pushing in the 3 tabs from each cable.

Hope those directions help for you. If you can, take it easy on that equalizer. In other words do not damage it as you can not find that equalizer anywhere, except the jy (if you're lucky). It happens to be a discontinued part through the dealer. So if you plan on reselling the lines and handle, I'm sure the buyer would appreciate the brake equalizer and possibly the e-brake box.
