Default removal of the windshield trim/weather stripping

Alright so I did a quick search and I didnt find much to help me out.
I have a 99 Cherokee that has had a very slow drip from the drivers side area from windshiled. It is coming right from above the dash and it only drips when it pours. It has done this ever since I got the Jeep and I want to fix it asap. I got quoted 200 bucks to have the windshield reglued in, but I think that I can do it myself for next to nothing, if not then I am in the same boat that I am in now.
The windshield has the black rubber trim around it, how does the trim get removed? Does it hold the windshield in? I pried on it a bit with no luck.
Has anyone had this issue before and if so how did you resolve it?
I have a feeling that if it keeps dripping it will turn into more problems.
Thanks!

You don't have full coverage insurance?

If you do, call and tell them it needs to be replaced and most will replace it for free.

I had a guy come out to my house and remove my old windshield and install a brand new one for 170 bucks...

On a earlier model XJ the trim is held in with clips. Not sure on the late models.

But, I can promise you that you will not get that windshield out in one piece without the right tools.

Nope I just have liability. When I start dumping some more money into it I might get full coverage.
Before I take it to a shop I wanted to see if I could assess the leaking before I spent 200 bucks (doing that would cost me nothig but in order to do that I have to take off the black trim/seal and I guess I am just wondering if that holds in the windshiled). I know I cant remove it in 1 piece lol. I dont want to remove it if I dont have to.

Go around to the local glass shops, and see if anyone does it on the side. Most do! I Have a Friend that is a glazer. And he does it for around $60 and a case of beer.
