I have A 2001 XJ w/power locks and windows no security and no fobs
So I am working at installing a remote start with power lock control.
I have a paper off the internet that says:
Power Lock: Orange/Purple (in drivers kick panel)
Power Unlock: Pink/Purple (in drivers kick panel)
Remote is a Prestige APS-620
red wire door lock (max switch capability of 250mA)
green wire door unlock (max switch capability of 250mA)
If I only look at that is seems simply connect Red to Orange/Purple and Green to Pink/Purple right?
Well then I start looking at all the write up for :
3 wire ground switched door lock circuits
negative type door lock circuits
positive door locks
5 wire polarity reversal door locks
negative door locks requiring more than 250mA
...and my head spins a bit
Is it as simple as simply connect Red to Orange/Purple and Green to Pink/Purple or do I need relays and delays and confusion oh my?

This is not a good beginners project. You may want to call an installer such as Best Buy and let them handle it. You won't save any $$$ if you fry the PCM or set your ride on fire.

Good point, thanks. Now, back to the issue at hand.
Does anybody know off hand if the 2000/2001 XJ is a negative or positive type door lock circuit?
I know my remote unit uses a pulsed ground for the door lock/unlock. If the XJ uses the negative pulse do you know if it exceeds the 250mA rating?

Hello, you are correct. You should be able to connect those wires as you described, but i'm not sure I agree on the colors. The only part of the door lock system that is a neg (-) pulse is the message from the RKE module to the pass front door module (switch) . So what works easily is to take the appropriate - lock and unlock wires from your unit and catch the lock and unlock wires coming from the rke module. Here is a picture.... (wires are easy to find in the right kick panel towards to top of the JB.

Went out of town again...at least it was LA instead of Chicago this time
I hope to get to it this weekend - should be above freezing then, unlike last Saturday.

between travel and the flu I've been out of commission for a while. This weekend i sat with my rear out in the snow and my head under the dash. Got everything wired up.
Door locks work fine but it seems the unit will not learn the tach signal. Maybe I'm impatient? I gave it a minute or so.

Hello, glad the door locks worked for you, get the tach signal going? You can cheat and use the neg side of a fuel injector as a tach signal.
Good luck

Sorry I can't as I don't own that jeep anymore. my current ride has no power options...I did just put one in my brothers jeep and we found both of the wires in the left kick panel..Once you find the correct wire , just momentarily ground it with a jumper wire. The locks will either lock or unlock...this will confirm that you are using the right wire
good luck,( the12volt.com is a good site for wire colours and locations)
