i wouod say im too smat to try this...not chicken.

i would rather save for 5 years to buy some cheap coils then have an unsafe redneck jeep.

Quote: I totally agree about the bumps and the longer springs but some folks just wont spring for them. I see it over and over again. I'm just offering a few cents on a solution for the guy that just wont buy the springs. from spring nuts to stacked pucks to welding springs to springs(Yikes never do any of that!!!!) so many folks pride themselves on trying to find ways around coming up with the cash. Before I shut down and started manufacturing I saw so many guys that just will not put up the cash to do something right yet were too darn stubborn not to try anyway... I feel its a little irresponsible to bash them instead of trying to steer them to a safe solution that they are willing to actually try. Its all of our butts on the line.

Once everybody realizes that somebody is always going to have a bigger and badder jeep than theirs because somebody is always going to have more money than all of us, and just enjoys the sport as well as the build I hope in this situation more constructivism can be offered, That's all I'm suggesting.

why dont you go ride in his jeep on the highway then guy? ur encouraging him to keep this "fab" up. i dont have a bunch of money, but i do stuff right so that i can live to see another day.

and it doesnt really matter if you have the biggest baddest jeep. i had an xj with 2'' bb. and it went everywhere im taking my fullwidth xj on 37's....just a little more damage. took me 2 1/2 years to build mine safe...its called patientce.

I have some constructive criticism, park that thing until you can afford to do it right. A safe solution he is willing to try, how about buying springs. I'll tell you what, you want an alternative, a buddy of mine welded two coil springs together to get his lift, but he also fabbed a whole bunch of tabs to hold the springs together in case the welds broke. Try that instead of the death trap you have going on.

It does not matter if you have an optimistic view or a pessimistic view about this build. The bottom line is that it is straight out unsafe, unskilled, and unintelligent to call that fabrication skills. The Jeep hobby and lifestyle was built on the willingness of inviduals to go where there are no roads and the ability to fabricate the parts that make it possible. It not about just figuring out how to make it big, but how to make it safe, make it functional, and pushing the limits of fabrication to design new parts that will not fail. Those coils springs may not fall out during flex but the whole design is just plain wrong and should be corrected before you kill someone.

a few points to look at (some mentioned already)

you didnt even cap off the square tube you used, without capping it off you run the cahnce of it crushing.

longer brakelines, just pulling your brakeline from the holding tabs is not a good idea, the movment up and down and vibrations will create a hole or crack in the hardline, not to mention if you hang it up on something or crush it. just go buy some brakelines for a YJ and you will still be cheap.

longer control arms, your coils look like they are arched.

get a longer bumpstop or build one, i dont care that you HAVE wheeled it and your spring is still there. with it arched like that and a non existant bumpstop, that spring will pop out sometime.

even if you put a coil spring tab on top and bottom, they wont always hold which is why many run limiting straps when they build their custom suspension.
