I have two XJs (98 and 99). Both have 200k+ miles and have had a lot of parts replaced and rebuilt. I had put rebuilt steering gear boxes (from NAPA) in both XJs. When the steering gear box went on the 98, I ended up getting a red head since I didn't want to make this an annual thing. Well, the steering in my 98 was getting worse and worse and had a ton of play that became dangerous. For some reason, I thought I had put the read head box in the other XJ so I ordered another one and went to put it in today. I was surprised when I went to repalce it, that it was the read head one.
I had already ordered the red head so put it on. I'm getting pretty good at replacing steering boxes and had it out and replaced in ~2 hours. I contacted red head after to see if they will turn my new purchase into a warranty replacement instead. The first one was bought in february of this year.
Severely disappointed and will be even more disappointed if they will not turnt his into a warranty replacement. I was tempted to try the blue top steering box to compare. If red head won't help me out here, I will be done with them and going to blue top.
