Painted the D-rings black. Black on black is the way to go.

not a fan of d-ring/celvis. I like tow hooks cause are quicker to loop a tow strap on, some times the tow point is under water/mud and messing with the d-ring is frustrating,.. I've never had a tow strap fall off(my hooks are pointed up, not down), and I've never tugged/been tugged so hard that the tow hooks uncurl.

I can see where celvis come in handy when combining to straps, or other odd trail uses,..

So i say go for the hook,.. Just my personal preference. Both are acceptable tow points

Mattpar you have a photo of how your hooks are mounted because there is not a lot of room to mount hooks facing up under an XJ

Back(5-ish years ago) when i had my 93 XJ. You can see in the black circles, i had C4x4 tow hook brackets, and then bolted the tow hooks under the bracket, with the hook pointing up.

does any one of where i can find this: i saw a thread not to long ago but can't remember which one it was. they used the tow hook brakes but there was also another piece that ran from side to side right under the ac condenser so it made your recovery point really strong. does any one know where i can find this.

of the two hook kits in this thread...do they replace the OEM front bumper mount like the stock XJ hooks do? or do they mount in addition to the OEM mount?

Most xj's didn't come with factory tow hooks, so they wouldn't have oem mounts. Most of the aftermarket kits mount in the factory location, I believe that is what you are asking.

I'm curious if it bolts right into the frame or not, because on mine the muffler is attached to the frame there.

I also wanted to put tow hooks on the front. These to be specifichttp://store.hicountryoffroad.com/Je...ooks_p_10.html
Same question, do these bolt right on as well? Are they strong enough to help pull people out of the ditch? Thanks in advance for the help.
I have the exact same one on the rear and I also have a front curt hitch as well. Check out the link.
