Hey guys, just wondering what psi I should put my tires at for rock crawling. Tomorrow I'm going to Sedona az to hit some trails. A little sand, a little gravel and loose dirt, but mostly boulders and red rock. My tread is getting a little low so I need all the grip I can get. I run 31x10.50 pro comp m/t.

I run my 31x10.5 muds at 15 for normal trail riding. I occasionally drop it down to 12 or so. Others run lower (10ish PSI) but I dont feel comfortable running my tires that low

 

id be careful going under 12 psi without beadlocks

 

i would say the same just to cover my *** lol but i run about 7-8psi offroad and 4psi in the winter. i know that seems way to low but have yet to lose a bead! only reason i wouldnt entirely recomend going below 10 is because it can cause the tire to move on the rim which throws the balance off. and yes, i do drive mine to and from the trail for now.

 

air them down until they start to bulge but your not losing ground clearance. some of the trails up in sedona you need all of the clearance you can get!!! Great trails up there!


i run ,y 33's at 20 psi, works great, every once in a while go down to 15 and they look way low!!!

 

Wheel size will determine how low you can go. I run 8 in my 35s with 8" wheels and 3 in my old 38s on the same size wheel. We ran 15 in my brother's 31s on an 8 inch wheel and it was about perfect.

the biggest thing is with the lower PSI, the tire basically wraps around stuff and grabs onto whatever it can to get traction. i use to run around 12 in my 33s but dropped to 7 in my 35s and it went anywhere it wanted to.

 

try different pressures and find what works for you and what YOU like best, just be sure not to run them so low they hit the rims on rocks and chip or bend the bead.

I would take them down to 15 lbs and see how that works. If that doesn't do it drop a few more say down to 12 lbs if you are running steel wheels without bead locks I don't think I would go below 10 lbs. ( steel doesn't hold a bead as well as aluminum wheels )
