Default recommended oil

Bought a 99xj 2 weeks ago, finally getting the chance to flush and change the oil, what would be the best recommended oil to use. 4.0 with 225K miles.

I as well as a lot of people use Shell Rotella. With a Mopar, Wix or Napa Gold filter. It's really up to preference, just don't use a Fram filter

K&N is a good filter....but then there are plenty of readily available good filters that don't have a $6 bolt head on them.

Ok, I've seen them just never used out heard any reviews about them, I'll go with wix. I'm horrible at choosing oil weight though what would be best?

Since you're in TX, and have alot of miles on your engine, 10W40 may be appropriate. I'm also a fan of Wix/NAPA Gold.

The viscosity you use depends on the climate you are in. A person in Hawaii is not going to use the same viscosity as somebody in Alaska in the winter.....

From the manual:

If the outside temperature is primarily above 60 degrees farenheit, use 10-30

If the outside temperature is primarily below 60 degrees farenheit, use 5-30

I see no reason to not follow the engineer's recommendations here.
