I run Rotella 10w-30 in all of me Jeeps. It keeps your internals clean and quiets the XJs natural tick. If you wanted you can run this stuff for 5-6k miles but I still change mine at 3-4k. In my experience running oil that heavy is nothing but bad news.

Vee-dubs like heavy oil. Haven't seen yet that Jeeps need it. Manual sais 10W30 or 5W30 in cold weather, I'm inclined to stick with that until something makes me want to change.

I can't believe I'm posting in another oil thread (I promised myself I wasn't going to do this) but don't use lucas oil additives. It's been well documented to aerate in the engine causing a foaming of the oil which reduces the oil's ability to lubricate the engine.
Honestly you really shouldn't need to run any additives in your oil given the advances in oil technology over the last 20 years.
In terms of what weight to run, people on the forum run everything from 0W-20 to 15W-40. It's really preference and what your engine seems to prefer. (I'm going to qualify that with, you probably want to run different weights in different seasons)
However you do need to be running a quality oil filter (napa gold, wix, motorcraft, mobil 1, or mopar) Never Fram.

I use Royal Purple, full-synthetic 10-40.... once I started using it, I saw a smoother running motor, and my fuel mileage increased by almost 4mpg. no lie. its not cheap, but as I just mentioned in another thread, money buys quality, and the savings associated with this oil has made it totally worth it for me.

I run mobil 1 synthetic
5w-30 for the winter
10w-30 for the spring/summer/fall
as far as oil filters:
NEVER RUN FRAM AKA orange can of death
I prefer the puralator gold, makes it easy to remove with the coating they have on the outside of the filter.

I run Mobil 5000 and lucas and a fram filter and guess what my baby has 341,000 on the clock and one head gasket job so believe me the technology is improved greatly
