I am about to have my engine rebuilt, but what other components should I replace? (Starter, compressor, ect.) Any and all suggestions are appreciated

I wouldn't replace any of the easy bolt on things if they are still good. Just make sure to do the engine internals well with that cash. Unless yo had like 200k on the alternator or starter, then maybe...

Replace your motor mounts. If your water pump has a few miles it won't hurt to replace along with the t-stat, check all hoses and the belts if they even look wore replace. Also a new motor whether rebuilt or new will run hotter so make sure all the cooling system is in good shape. Check all ground cables and battery cables, and so on just look over everything while the engine bay is empty and replace as needed good luck.If you want to replace the starter and alt. while its out just have them rebuilt if they are in decent shape it shouldn't cost over 30-40 bucks for them to put in new bushing etc. Just a bit of preventive matanice that won't hurt. Its always better to do it now instead of after the fact.Just make's more sense instead of waiting till it does break. Also toss on a new harmonic balancer only 40 bucks. Are they replacing all seals and gaskets with the rebuild they should just double check with them.

When I did the engine swap on the '97 earlier this year, I reused the starter and everything big ticket that was in good shape or newer. I'd look into new fuel injectors to really give it brand new vehicle performance. Replacing stuff like the water pump is good advice to minimize problems down the road and the additional cost in not that much. You might want to do a couple sensors that have proven to be potential problems now like the crankshaft position sensor. Take time to do a complete tune up also with new plugs, cap, rotor, wires, etc. Also, do new hoses, thermostat, and a belt on the replacement of the motor. You won't be sorry.

My philosophy is and always has been to replace any part that is removed during a repair. If I have the part replaces while it is off I am only paying for the price of the part and not labor. Maybe a little more expensive on the front end, however I have never been broken down along side the road or worse.
If nothing else, replace belts, hoses and the water pump. The starter would be my next one to replace and the alternator last.
Hope the rebuild goes well and no surprises in the future

It doesn't have a timing belt, it has a timing chain. Timing chains last significantly longer than belts.
