Default rear wheel play

I have a 96 xj all stock with 80k and a freind said the rear passenger wheel was wobbling(not bad) when they were following me. I couldn't feel it ,no howling noise, lug nuts are tight. So I jacked it up and could move the wheel in and out no more than a 1/4 inch. Is this normal or could it be part of the wobble? I was told the wobble could be a missing wheel weight or a tire issue. But the wheel play concerns me.

Could be a bent rim. Or a bad tire...

in and out is common, up and down is bad. Could be a illusion with your wheel moving. Seen it lots, a hubcap off center will make it look like the wheel is coming off. Some mud or dirt stains on the tires will make the wheel look like its wobbleing, if you can't feel anything, most likely nothing is wrong.

If the wheels are steel one could be bent. Worse case you could have a bent axle.
