The rear pinion yoke on my 01 XJ literally blew into 2 pieces. Ive got a 29 spline 8.25 axle. I was woundering of the yoke from an older model will work. I dont have enough money to pay anyone so how would i know when to stop tightening the new one on?
Thanks yall
Thanks yall
The yoke didn't fail the u-joint did. Be that as it may first make sure you didn't turn the driveshaft in to a pretzel. If thats OK boneyard companion flange fix is as follows. Hold companion flange with preferably a companion flange support tool or giant channel locks. Add 2 drops of blue lock tite spin the lock nut on and torque to 150 ft. lbs. It's as good as anything and will either last 50,000 miles or around the block, which ever comes first.

The U-joint is in one piece, so are the 4 retaining bolts and clips that bolt on. The yoke split in half down goin the direction of the drive shaft. There is a half circle of a yoke left in there and the other half is in my tool box.Originally Posted by Turbo X_J

Yea I see. Was the pinion nut ever replaced in the past? Usually you can see an imprint where the washer was. If it wasn't torqued enough it could move then BAM!
The nut is still on there with the other half of the yoke. I've never replaced/taken it off. Will any XJ yoke work?
Probably just call around to boneyards. I don't see either companion or pinion flange listed seperately on carpart.com.
