Default What not to spray water on...

Anything i shouldnt spray water on on the engine? i went mudding and i was cleaning underneath the xj and under the engine, the engine wasnt all the way cool when i sprayed it...anything i shouldnt spray in the engine in the future? Hope i didnt mess anything up....its a 99 classic

Alternator, battery, computer, etc. They might be "water resistant" but not water-proof

Tps or throttle body, computer is on driver side fender well next to the air box, also don't spray the fuse box on pass fender well,

I would think you should let it cool all the way down to prevent warping.

dont spray it on the exhaust manifold if its been running for a bit.

Same here. A surgeon could operate underneath my hood. Hot, cold, muddy or just dusty, it's all fair game when it comes to washing this horse. If this is all you have to worry about, I'd say you need a hobby or something.

Last time I washed my engine it wouldn't start for 3 days lol so I don't wash it.... its nasty right now and buggin me but I can't have it down for 3 days again.

I have links to a hundred threads about issues following an engine wash but the good news is that I can't find a single one that actually resulted in any sort of permanent damage. The most common problem is a one to three day issue of not starting usually caused by water in the distributor or TPS that takes a while to dry out.

I don't recommend washing your engine but there are many who do with no problems, just be prepared for the possible consequences and only do it when your engine is cool. If you're not having any problems then don't worry about it and be careful of the sensitive electronics in the future.
