Default rear main thought i nailed it but.....

She still leaks like a stuck pig. Pumps oil out as the rpms go up. I can live with a little drip but a half a quart a day right onto the exhaust is a lot.

Not sure about tearing it apart. A couple if more tries and I could just bring it to a shop

Leaks either from the rms or more than likley the pan gasket. How can you be 100% that the gasket finds its way into the groove on the rms cap?

I used the dual lip rms and the one piece gasket

Yea. I'm questioning weather or not I got the rear part of the pan gasket seated right. There is a groove in the cap. How can you be 100% that you have it good to go

Yes. The gasket when I test fit it to the rms cap seemed a little big and did not go into the machined channel at all.

i noticed the same thing when i installed mine a while back i added some rtv to help seal if off.. to check just wipe down the area that u suspect the leak is coming from and while the jeeps running get under and see if ou notice anything.. I dont know but it could also be the oil filter housing. i remember mine was leaking from there.. and dripping down onto the exhaust.

jw wondering how u took the old one out? when you took a little screw driver or a little pick to get the top half of the seal out did you hit it against the block at all. if u did it could have scratched it and then it will leak

Yea this sucks, I just did my RMS myself on my 01 and leaks worse then it did before!!, this aint my first RMS on a 4.0 Jeep either so I am guessing I buggered up the rear of the pan gasket, was a real PITA doing it from jackstands and on a stock height Jeep. will be redoing in a couple weekeds but this time I am going to undo the motor mounts and try to get an inch or so lift out of the engine THEN put it on jackstands.

Other RMS jobs have been a 1990 Cherokee 94 YJ and a 95 ZJ, guess I have a 75% success rate.
