Default Rear main might seal itself?

I just put a new motor in. Runs great. I've got about 60 miles on it.

Well, the rear main is leaking. I talked to a buddy that works in a local shop, and he said it might seal itself up. I've never heard of that EVER happening.

Really don't want to tear into it again, but I'd like to be optimistic about it.

Anyone know if this is true or not?

Probably < 5% chance of fixing itself, you sure it's not the valve cover?

Valve cover was the first thing I though of after I saw the oil. Ran my hand along the backside of the head and didn't have any oil on my fingers.

One of the oil pan to timing cover bolts is leaking too, but thats an easy fix.

The thing that's REALLY getting me, is that I've got oil getting slung up on my exhaust too. And a couple drops collect on the trans pan after an hour or so of driving. That's what made me think valve cover; rolling down the top of the bell housing to the trans pan. buuuuutttt nope....

Kinda True, sometimes when vehicles sit for long periods of time the seals will "shrink" , but once you get to driving them they will seal up again, sometimes.

The motor was rebuilt about 3 weeks before start up. Seal was installed correctly (well I thought so) per instructions cross referenced in Fel-pro package and Chilton manual.

So "age" would not apply in your case, running it a while it may shift a bit and seal up, just kinda depends on how bad the leak is.

I sure hope hope so. The dipstick says I'm loosing very little. I've only lost about a 1/4 of a quart. But the driveway and my parking spot at work says other wise haha. I guess a couple drips on concrete can look like a lot more once it's spread out.
