Default rear main headache

any thoughts on getting out the upper half of a stuck upper rear main seal ? tried tap/punching it out with failure, like it has encrusted itself very dried out , yes was leaking, dome light works.

I thought of loosening the mains and unbolt torque vert bolts if crank will hang down enough to get into the grove, just not sure.

take a punch that fits on the metal end that goes through the whole upper seal, then use a BFH and knock it loose, trust me it seems like ur gonna damage things but it will work thats what i had to doo, just dont slip and hit the crank or the part of the block cause it could sore the crank and chip off some of the block..... it will work tho!

I ended up pulling my trans to do it.. and by the way. a BFH is likely already around the house

its 6 inches shorter than a foot and a half
it comes in different colors but all have a similar shape
not an animal
smaller than a break box
riddle me this.. what is it?

When I did mine I used a small screw driver to get the end out and than grabbed it with pliers and pulled it right out.

When you put the new in, do your self a favor, wipe the seal down with Dawn Dish soap it will slide right on in...

ok 2 taps and it came out, don't know why it didn't ease out the first time. Thanks 1990cherokee for reminding me to use the proper tools for the job, because a screwdriver can scratch your crank as i did out of frustration. Thanks everyone; cherokeeforum is #1

Any time i am glad i could help and solve your problem that's what this forum is for.. Just member to use that tab with installing it so it doesn't tear the outer edge of the new seal.

sorry guys.. been out of touch for a bit. Just found out that the wife is PREGNANT!! Actually its been a few days but being the holidays and all..

anywho.. sorry about joking around about the BFH, didnt mean to be rude.. probably came across that way having not followed up with the punchline.. Im glad to hear that it can be easier than I made it out to be.. looks like I might have to do it again though ... must have gotten pinched when I put it in..

have a good night

Be sure you silicon the gasket to the bottom of the engine block ,
in the 4 corners and screw the nuts in till it dries -
this will ease install of the oil pan, i forgot to do this and it took a lot longer to do
