The yoke on my rear end where the drive shaft bolts up has play in it, the u-joint is not tight and it is a new u-joint! Anyone have this problem before? The yoke was pretty rusty.

 

You lifted? Too much lift can do this.. Bad output bearing possibly..

 

The u-joints themselves should have absolutely no play.

 

4.5" lift but everything is lined up perfectly. So the out put bearing on the axel? The yoke is what I worn

 

Could it be the wrong size ujoint?

 

Could be the yoke off the diff, or the outer pinion bearing. Does the yoke have up/down or in/out movement? What size joint is in?

 

Joint size is #1310

 

Correct joint.. Ya know, you could replace the yoke and the bearings/seals and see if it fixes it. Should be like $150 in parts for everything. If you bring it to a shop they can probably tell ya more because they'll be able to get hands on with it.. Not something you should be charged for either if they just do a quick assessment.

Where there's smoke there's fire.. Generally, so it could be more than just the yoke.. But like I said, have a shop take a look at it. Even if it was 20 bucks to know what the problem is, that's worth it in my book.

 

I have had two yokes go out in a stock XJ. I replaced it with the yoke upgrade from Crown Automotive. it uses the u-bolts instead of the straps. Got it off Ebay for like $30.
