I just bought a 1995 Jeep Cherokee XJ Sport and it is in pretty much immaculate condition except for one thing... It starts to shake and hop all over the place (Very similar looking to death wobble) when I hit its magic number of about 65 MPH The previous owner said it was something to do with the rear drivers side leaf spring and it would do that after hitting a bump but I didn't hit a bump and it started doing this and I looked at the leaf springs and their hangers and they all appear fine and arent sagging Both shocks appear to be fine the tires are in good shape and balanced properly on good rims and the axle isn't making any noise. I did notice that someone removed the rear sway bar but I thought a sway bar on the rear of an XJ did nothing. And the reason I think its in the rear suspension is because when its wobble happens I cant feel it in the steering wheel/column at all, And the previous owner said it was likely a leaf spring. Any Input on helping me find out what is wrong and helping me with fixing the problem would be much appreciated.

Interesting. Lack of sway has nothing to do with it.

If you're sure, and i mean 100% absolutely sure, that your tires are balanced and rims are good... and your shocks/springs are good... That only leaves the axle bud. Bent shaft probably.

Put it on jackstands, let her run in gear(just at idle), and watch your tires. If theyre turning smooth, or if one has a wobble to it.

A bent rim could account for that. If it was the driveshaft it would happen sooner.

Yup, I would check the wheels to see they are straight and the tires for tread seperations

Agree with the previous posters.

I had a bad tire on my previous Jeep (A TJ, so it was the original full size spare that I put on after 12 years of zero use) - the tire LOOKED great but caused the most awful vibration at a certain speed on the highway. You can check by rotating the front tires to the back and see if the vibe moves to the front.
