Default rear end

so i popped my 91 up on jack stands in prep to pull the engine, i looked at the rear end and it has the plastic plug thing on the upper back, which rear is this, any good? how do i find out my gears? i know its open diff. anyone make a good reliable limited slip for this rear. thx guys

Do you mean the plug on the diff cover? If so does it have a Dana symbol? If not it's likely an 8.25...but more then likely at 91 it is a D35..Also if it is the 8.25 you will have a flat spot at the bottom and top of the pumpkin..As far as gear there is usually a tag and if not I forget where but inside there should be a stamp and I am sure someone who knows will chime in on that.

I would bet that it is a D-35. I have one sitting in my garage with that silly rubber plug. There should also be a tag on the cover that will tell you what gears you have. If not, you can pop the cover and divide the number of teeth on the ring gear by the number of teeth on the pinion gear.

my 8.25 has the rubber plug. just look at the bottom. flat is the 8.25, fat oval is a 35.

another thing about your gear ratio is if it is an auto tranny more than likely 3.55 and manual it is probly a 3.07.

i think i got the 35..... eh maybe my parts jeep has the 8.25.
