Its just your adjuster hold its bent to far out which is allowning the spring not to sit right and making it pull out towards the drum once you get the new adj hold you'll be fine just taje off the lower spring and that's all

Did you measure the width of the shoes you took off? What rear axle do you have - Dana 35 or Dana 44? I think the 1.75 shoes are for the Dana 35 and the 2.5" are for the Dana 44which is what most parts stores have. Then Dana 44 is harder to find. These Jeeps are old and someone may have swapped out the axle or the brakes for something that they got to work.

Its definitely. All original. My grandfather. Had it new in late 87 when the 88s just came out he only used it when it was snowy. BC it was 4wd
