Any suggestions to get the interior panel off with the door close without screwing anything up at all?? including those little white pin things..

I used my pocketknife on the panel pins. Slowly work them out, as they're ribbed and could probably break fairly easily...
I have a '98 Chero' with a Rear Passenger side door that will not open, neither from the inside, nor the outside. I don't think you can get the inside panel off in order to gain access to the rods and release mechanism.
A "write up" on the subject would be a real plus to our followers.

I'm sorry guys but today the fridge went on the fritz so the write up is going to be delayed for a day. I stayed up most of the night working on the text part of the write up and I'm about half done but today is being spent shopping for a new fridge. I live about 25 km out of a small town and there isn't a great selection of fridges (or prices) available so it's about 200 km round trip, not to mention the shopping itself.
Once again, sorry for the delay but mommy's food has to come first.

Hi Rudy:
Sorry to hear that the fridge gave up on you. Too bad it's not December/January, where the remedy is to set the refrigerated items (milk and eggs) out of the back porch until needed. Of course, that will draw the bears in to investigate and that's not good either.
We can wait on the write up, . . . .you need to take care of the domestic difficulties as they arise.
Thanks for wanting to help with the un-openable rear doors.

Ok guys, the writeup is complete but I've done it all on my iPhone and it's impossible to post it here so that the pics appear in the correct place in relation to the text. I might be exaggerating about the impossible part. I tried posting through the app and I can't figure out a way to preview the writeup before posting.
I'm going to go to my sisters place in the morning and try to post it again from her computer. If that doesn't work I'm going to turn the whole thing into a PDF file and I'll dump it into a public folder in Dropbox and post a link to the file.
This took way longer than I thought it would...

On July 23 at 6:00 pm I suffered a heart attack and I haven't thought much about the write up. It is done but the problem is that I've done the whole thing on my iPhone and, using the app, there is no way for me to assemble it and have the pics appear at the right places within the text. I don't have Internet on the farm so I'm stuck with the iPhone and the app. If you want I can pull the pics and text that apply to your particular problem and post here but you'll have to be patient with me. I get tired so easily now and I feel so weak most of the time... I was working on a couple of projects when the ticker decided to pack it in and I don't know when I'll get to them now

Oh damn, I am sorry to hear that...
How have things been since then?
And no worries on the write up, if you find the time to write it that would be swell. But if you have other priorities, then I definitely understand.

I've got a similar "jeep thing" problem with my 98 XJ. I'll be further investigating it later this week, but here is the basic diagnosis:
-When driver door is closed and locked, outside handle is UNABLE to open door (zero tension on push button)
-When driver door is closed and locked, inside handle is ABLE to open door, thus, unlocking door
-When driver door is opened and unlocked, closing door is UNABLE to latch and bounces open again
-When driver door is opened and locked, closing door is ABLE to latch and stay closed
I opened it up some time ago and figured out what was wrong and tried to "bandage" the problem, but that barely lasted 5 door open/close operations. I'll be tearing into it this time around and documenting (and ordering replacement parts as needed) in order to alleviate the issue. I hate walking to my Jeep and having to get into the driver seat from the passenger door.

Well is anyone else willing to do a write up on doors?
My issue now is on a rear door where I have to push the button on the outside all the way in (often times it gets stuck in the handle and I have to kinda pry it out) it opens fine on the inside.
Anyone know how to fix this? I already tried the hole with the hex bolt, its as high as it can go...

Hi Erik, I just fixed this problem on mine. Same door too! The adjustment won't work because parts are bent.
I tried to not only fix it but find the root cause too.
I believe it is from the lube drying up on the latch and too much pressure having to be applied to get the door open.
This bends parts of the mechanism beyond what the little Allen key adjustment can accommodate.
Quick answer is to pull the door inner skin, remove the latch, free it up and lube it, remove the outer latch hinge plate and straighten all bent parts.
Put it all back together and set up the adjustment with the Allan key bolt in the halfmoon slot below the latch.
My job was complicated by the previous owner switching the child lock over (thinking it was the problem) and jamming the door from both sides.
I actually slid a screwdriver into the corner of the door to slide the child lock, if you look at the other side you will figure where and how far it has to go in.
It would be easier to just pull the door skin because you will likely have to anyway.
I pulled the inner door skin using a bent prybar to pull close to the plastic tabs. Then I pulled back the plastic sheet.
4 rods, one is for the power doorlock motor, one the manual lock and one each for the inside and outside latches.
Open the door and disconnect the rods at the latch if you can.
Unbolt the 3 torks bolts on the end of the door and pull the latch out.
Now remove the push pin guide and hinge plate for the outer latch button (Philips screw), lube and straighten all bent parts on both these assemblies.
Put it all back together, hook up the rods and make sure everything is moving free. Set up the adjustment with the Allan key bolt in the halfmoon slot below the latch.
Hope this helps!

the button mechanism sounds and looks like what mine did. one side of it hooks in and then the other side screws in. the screw in mine stripped out allowing it to get all sideways an junk. i pulled door panel, unjammed the button. cleaned and greased everything, re installed it with a slightly larger screw that created its own threads (its plastic it screws into)
