rear diff cover gasket?
on my 97 cherokee i looked for the tag on one of the bolts.. whats left of it is there.. how else can i tell if its a dana 35 or the 8.25 rear? probably a newbie question... the gaskets look the same between the 2 rears but theyre a different part number.. whats is the difference?

measure the axle tubes,if they are 3",it is an 8.25,it it is 2-3/4" it is an D35,also the bottom of the 8.25 carrier is square on the bottom, not the cover. The diff between the two is the 8.25 has a bigger ring gear 8.25,and axles, yours being a 97 it should have the 29 spline axles and 1.21 axle dia,the dana 35 axles are 1.16 dia and the ring gear,is 7.62". The 8.25 is the choice of most unless there is a D44 around.

ok i guess ill go ahead and order the 8.25 diff gasket.. see i have to order all this crap and have it mailed to me (autozone ships for free to overseas APO boxes) and my jeep is about 40 miles away in a storage unit on base.. (but not the base im stationed at..) so itll be until next week when i can measure to be sure it is a 8.25.. but whatever. hopefully itll pass the dumb german inspection next week. i just wanna change the diff fluid, trans and transfercase.. if the front brakes were original i guarantee the fluids are. there are seals for the front axle shafts right? i have to do front axle u joints and i would like to replace the seals, autozone doesnt list any on the site.. anyone have a part number for a dana 30 w/out abs?

for the rear diff ive always used silicone those gaskets usually end up leaking anyway i usually put on the silicone let it setup a little then tighten it down and put ont the fluid i dont have any leaks on any of the vehichles i do that way. And the seals you want are inside the carrier they are called differential seals il try and find some parts numbers for you this is a national part number Part No. 710068
