Rear clicking noise - 97 XJ 4.0L 4x4

Rear clicking noise - 97 XJ 4.0L 4x4

I have a 1997 XJ with about 140k miles. After I turn the vehicle off, I hear a knocking nose coming from the rear. Goes on for about 5 - 10 seconds and then stops.

Any suggestions as to what this could be?

My bet is the fuel pump, based on the location. Maybe critters?!?

Are there any other symptoms that would be associated with this? I'm not sure the squirrels have gotten in!

Definitely not the exhaust cooling - sounds more mechanical and coming from the other side of the Jeep (the driver's side). Would that be where the fuel pump is located?
