Best bet-- Broken wires between the hatch and the body. Years of opening and closing the hatch have probably flexed the wires enough to break the wires inside the loom!! Easy fix, cut the loom open and repair the damage..

Or the off switch on the dome light itself is bad/broken. When you open the hatch you can flip that switch to turn the lights off. I replaced that switch with a mini toggle that looks factory from ebay, <$2 shipped and solved it for me.

Does your rearmost domelight have TWO black buttons?
Open hatch and click one until the lights come on.
Then close the hatch...they should go out. (If not re-click the one you chose and click the other...re-try test)
The "wire loom" is the cluster of wires that connect the hatch wiring to the rear harness.
The loom can be seen on the upper left corner of the hatch opening.
The connectors for this loom is located BEHIND the tire-side interior panel. NOTE: These are a P.I.T.A. to get to.
The actual triggering switch is mounted onto the backside of the latch mechanism itself. This can be accessed by removal of the hatch interior panel
