Default rear axle wont go into nuetral

I decided to change the dif fluid and long story short I couldn't get the gears inside to turn. I disconnected rear drive shaft to test whether it was the t case but it spins freely in neutral however the rear axle will not spin in neutral it drove fine before I opened the differential any ideas.

Is the parking brake on? Tires off the ground? It spun fine before you popped the diff cover correct?

Don't feel dumb. We all have moments like this. Chock the front wheels and jack the rear up. Tires should spin freely as long as your in Neutral. Lesson learned.

I've made far dumber brain farts. For instance I was I trying to start my jeep in drive. I spent an hour baffled until my 3 year old daughter ask what's this thingy(referring to the gear shift) and that's when I noticed it
