Default Rattling/Clanking noise front end pass. side.

Hey guys, lately I can occasionally hear a rattleing/clanking noise in the front end passenger side when I'm in the car. When the car is idle, in drive and my foot is on the brake sometimes It will start to make noise, and it feels like something is loose, or vibrating. When I start to move the car, it stops, or it gets way too low to hear. Also I should note that when I stick the car in Neutral, it also stops. Sometimes when I put it in park with my foot off the brake, it will make the noise.

I think it's the U-Joints, but im not sure. Maybe someone has had this problem before and knows. Please give me your opinions.

The model is a 2000 XJ sport, auto 4WD, CA emissions.

I'd guess exhaust banging on crossmember from worn engine mounts.

Hard to tell where a rattle is coming from over the Internet. My hearing's not that good lol

How can I check to see if that's the problem? What can I shake or bang on to confirm? hahaha

Mine does this too. I've always thought it was my exhaust rattling against my tranny crossmember as they do make contact with each other. Also sounds like it originates from the pass side and travels throughout the body. Mine usually does it while stopped in 'drive' with my foot on the brake. Putting it in neutral usually makes it stop or at least not as loud.

From recent searching I've found it could also be loose flex plate bolts or a cracked flexplate for that matter. I'm about to go out and put threadlocker on the flexplate bolts and torque them down to see if that helps. I think this might solve my knocking noise but I also think I'm getting rattle/knocking from the exhaust to crossmember contact.

Will let you know what happens on mine as the symptoms sound identical.

Try crawling under the jeep when its doing its rattle thing. Look where the exhaust goes over the crossmember...is there a gap in between the exhaust and xmember if so how much?

Alright I'll do that. Also quick question you guys, You know that second tube toward the back of the engine that connects to the exhaust manifold? Is there supposed to be oil in that? Cause I think that's whats throwing my CEL, if oil isnt supposed to be there. How do I fix it?

No tubes connect to the exhaust manifold. Are you referring to the breather that runs from the back of the valve cover to the INTAKE manifold? That's used for recovering blowby and oil vapors from the engine. Nothing to do with evap.

Does your main fan still have a shroud on it?

Salad: Yea that, should there be oil residue in there? not at alot but any at all? cause ive also got a p0432,0420 on the dash. Would that throw those lights?

And I'm not sure about the shroud, I'll have to go check but I don't recall anything behind the fans, they are exposed.

These codes relate to the catalyst system. I'm wondering if your exhaust rattling on the crossmember has broke something loose in the catalytic converter causing these codes. Not saying it doesn't have to do with with the blowby tube previously mention but a little oil in that tube would be normal in my opinion.

Yes it is for sucking oil vapor back into the engine. Those codes are unrelated to the CCV system.
