There is a rattling noise that just appeared in my 92 Laredo h.o. It sounds like something is loose underneath the jeep. Not low on oil or tranny fluid. It sounds like it is right between the oil pan and the bell housing. I made a recording but it was too large to upload. Will try to make a shorter one in am. The strangest part is the noise doesn't get louder or faster with engine rpm's. Once I get above 1600 rpm the noise just stops.

 

Automatic trans? If so, good chance your flexplate is cracked or more likely the flexplate to torque converter bolts are loose. Only way to find out is to check them.

 

So I went and openend up the access panel this morning after work, and lo and behold 3 of the 6 bolts holding the torque converter on were loose. retightened them and the noise went away, and sounds much more normal now.

 

Goos deal. Did you remove each bolt, clean the thread, and add LocTite before reinstallation? If not, something to think about in the near future.
