Just done deal with a fella to rat out a '96, lots of good parts still left on it
its missing both axles, (had ARB air locker front & rear) and I have to pull the engine, trans, tx case.
It will be difficult to disconnect the trans in situ...my plan is to remove the front clip, and engine crane out the engine & trans together, probably try and unbolt the TX case first
there is room for an engine crane, where is the best place to hook my crane for an engine + trans lift ?..any advice welcome
I have seen the site, and its a bit dodgy, done lots of engine removals using the portable crane though
He basically said take whatever else I want, already got the computers, sensors and a few other '96 specific parts off him

Overhead console, privacy glass, emblems, any nice, clean interior bits, nice door panels, sound bar, power locks and windows, center console lids since they snap off, gauge cluster, spare tire cover. Just thinking of things I want and people are always looking for. If it is just getting scrapped you can start taking metal and wire harnesses if you really wanted to.

He works away a bit, and just wants to get rid of the rest now, so I got free reign to grab what I want, we agreed on a price a few hundred $
I already got emblems, console lid, spare tyre covers, computers, sensors, lots of other parts of him
Also lucky enough to have a completely operational spare '96 Limited, same color as my DD, superb interior, only 59 VIN off mine!
Got that for $400 off a gent, but it had no fuel pump or master brake cyl, $100 tow + $100 for used pump and MC, and she is a goer
Prefer to keep it fully operational at all times

The guy was wrecking 2 fully set up off road '96.. I was late to the party unfortunately, most of the best fruit, like ARB air-lock axles, winch bars, suspension lift parts went like hot cakes

its full to the brim with spare parts
just fitted 16" Ford Explorer polished alloy wheels with 255/70/16 tyres , (30"), they weigh less than the original wheel & tyre combo, and look very slick
my plan is to keep it as long as I can, it has virtually zero rust, 335k km
a set of JCR rock slider is also part of the deal, alternator, complete upper steering column with key, fuel pump, engine, trans, TX case, etc etc

got a bunch of stuff,
the engine, trans and 242 has only 160k miles, so just broken in, this '96 one was stock, and I noticed it has excellent grey leather seats, which match my interior,
so a lowball offer should hopefully get them as well, he wants the wreck gone, its in his Dads front yard
I got 2 steering columns with keys, this is an XJ weakness
also took virtually everything in the engine bay, including harness, PDC, other parts, front clip
As I am RHD, think I will see if I can rat the interior for RHD heater core and evaporator, instruments, internal relays, fuse box,
rear hatch glass
looks like this car was driven on the beach a lot, he lives right next to the beach, and the the underside was rusty
In the salt belt USA though, this car would have been A1 primo lol

went back to pull the engine & trans complete, the guy works away a lot, so I wanted him to be there to help me,
being as it was in a tight location, on a down slope and side slope, with sand underneath,,,,so not ideal for an engine crane
dude had never pulled an engine before, but he was younger and stronger than me, temp was near 100F,
2hrs, we had it out, in trailer, with crane and gear stowed, I thought that was pretty good, grabbed the entire harness and electrics, except I had to cut the main harness where it comes thru the firewall
I skull dragged the crane thru the sand with the XJ to position it for lift into traileri
went thru 3 litres of water with electrolyte cause of the heat, but it was hard to pass on a spare '96 drivetrain, less than 1hrs drive away, and cheap
