Random stalling and hard to start
My Jeep has worked fine for me, but I've only used it for short hops to work and errands. When my daughter came home for summer, I let her use it for her job and running around. The first day she called me and said it wouldn't start. This was after a trip to her friend's place. Eventually it started and she got it home. This became more frequent for her and sometimes it dies while she is driving. She says she knows when it is about to happen and then she pulls over to a safe area. So I gave her my van and I drive the Jeep so I can get an idea of what it is doing. Of course it runs fine for me. Engine light is on, so I'll see if it gives me a code. At any rate, I've been doing some research here and came up with my quick list:
Check/clean battery terminals and ground
Distributor/wires/plugs
CPS
If these tasks don't take care of the problem, then I'll look at fuel with the possibility of replacing the pump. The PO had it sitting by his barn for about 3 years. Not good for a vehicle, but I've been fixing it up piecemeal as my budget allows. Hope some of you can provide some additional guidance.

The temp gauge was reading cool, so I replaced the cooland temp sensor. If the computer thinks the engine is too cool, it makes it run too rich. Seems to have fixed the problem.
Thanks JCF!

Fuel Pump
I had the same issues. Finally died and wouldn't start. Scanner pointed to TPS. PO122, PO123, PO138.
Fuel pump has a broken wire, inside the pump module. Now it has 2 broken wires. I have ordered a new $80 module (including shipping) from the bay.
Spark is easy to test, TPS (sort of) you should have an analog meter to check it well. Failing CPS will give the same symptoms.

Thanks, guys. I'll keep checking things as I've learned not to be too confident in easy fixes. Still have a long list of things to do on this truck.
