Default Rain gutter trim piece..

Was wheeling yesterday and low hanging BIG tree limbs took advantage of my roof mounted High Lift and Yakima bars. Pulled the bars that the jack was mounted to and the gutter trim off.

My question is this. Is the trim/cover pieces really needed? I understand that they are covering up the unfinished edge of the roof and body but, I am not into looks, just function! Thanks

It's only cosmetics ad not needed. Matter of fact my 98 never even came with it also my 95 never had it either. As long as you didn't rip off the drip rail it's self you will be fine without the trim piece.

I had the same problem. Did you remove the trim piece?

I have a JCR Roof Rack with Gutter Mounts and I bumped a tree. The roof rack and the gutter trim slid forward about 6".

Do I need to reinstall the trim?

I took mine off before they got ripped off. lol You will have 3 maybe 4 clips that hold the trim on. They are similar to a roll pin in design. You should be able to simply kind of hold the trim and roll it from the bottom edge toward the roof and they will release without much effort at all.

Good Luck and Happy Jeepin'

Bases off of the advice, I took my trim off and reinstalled with the clips and bonding glue.

I went to reinstall my rack and part of the mount that wraps under the gutter is stopping the back door from opening. I can see the alignment of the front door is lower than the back door and that is why I don't have this problem with the front doors.

This is a photo.

Has anyone had this problem?

Looks like the rack was installed about 2 inches further back than where it was originally. Looks like the clearance is off by just a tiny amount. Perhaps if it was in the exact original position, it would clear.

I know this is an old thread, but for anyone else that may also be wondering, that trim can likely be tapped back on ever so lightly back toward the rear! I'm currently looking for trim new or used, but it's actually very difficult to find. One of those rare, tough to get-your-hands-on Cherokee parts I'll tell you what! 😁

I see how it isn't 100% necessary to have the gutter guard, but like most daily driven classics, it's tough to see your baby rotting away!
