ok so today was the first chance that i got to work on my new xj and the first thing i went for was the radio. because well just about everything else is pretty tiptop so far.
but any ways when i try to hook up my radio i have no power at the radio end but i do have power on both sides of the fuse box. is there anything in between that i could be missing
i checked the wires with a wire tester

If it's an aftermarket radio, there's usually an inline fuse on the radio's wiring harness.
And what year/kind of Jeep is it... If you fill out the info section on your profile, it will help us out in the future...

ok lets go at this a bit differently.
What is the make and model number of the radio you are trying to install? Are you getting power at the stock radio plug now or what?

there is no power at the stock plug. i went out and got one of them plugs to install aftermarket radios so i didnt have to cut up the harness. after getting every thing figured out and hooked up it didnt work, so i try to find out why by testing the wires with a wire tester and my constent (Pink) wire had no power at all. so to temp fix the prob i ran my own constent out of the fuse box to the radio untill i can find out why i have no power to the stock wire. according to the wireing diagrams that i have the wire is pink at the radio plug then it is red and tan at the fuse box. so i think that my prob is were the wire changes over from to pink to red and tan but i am not quite sure were that is so i will have to take my dash out and trace it which seems like it is going to be a real PITA.
Hey Im haveing the same problem on my 92 and still havent resolved the issue yet because Im no wiz with wires Im not sure how to run a constent or a switched so still no power and no radio and a very pissed off wife because its an unfinished project as normal

ok if you have a 12 volt wire tester test to see if yoyu have a remote wire which i think should be red your constant is pink but since it isnt working.
your going to need 2 wires to run from you fuse box to your radio.
with the key in the off position check your fuses for one that has power to it. That is going to be your constent. now turn your key to the acc postion and see what fuse has power in the acc and run position that is going to be your switched or remote.
This is what i did to get my radio to work the hardest pert for me was trying to figure out how to hide the wires. so is what i did was hooked the up to the radio ran them out to the left of the radio be the jeeps clock, ran them behind the clock, then there is a spot just to the right of the gauge cluster that you can drop the wires behind the dash and run to your fuse box.
if you have trouble with that then let me know and i will tell you another way to do it
if you arent sure what wire is what on the radio send me the model number and make of it and i will get them for you
if any one has any type of wiring problem with a radio or system or well just about any thing let me know i do custom wiring in cars

Yeah I have the aftermarket plug so no wire hacking,I was just gonna rip the dash apart and track the wires and Ive got a whole bunch of empty spots on on my fuse block cause its bone stock only option in mine was ac I have a spot for the clock and a few others and theres a wire that runs to the rear that the last owner ran and I have no idea as to where it goes so the constent will be for my memorie and the other will be for the radio

The Pink wire should not change color as it goes back to power. Also the constant should be the largest gauge wire, probably in the middle of the factory plug. The acc. power should be rite next to it on one side or the other, if its like mine was.I just did my radio install in my 96 Cherokee. I had to find a wiring diagram online because my manual didn't say anything about the radio wiring. But I also made my own harness since 2 stores I went to didn't have the adapter in stock. I put a deck in that I already had and there was no way they could install it the way I wanted it. I installed it behind the dash like the original one was using the stock steel bracket, but drilling and taping the case around around the new deck. Much harder to install but also much harder to steal. I would recommend this to anyone.
