Default Radio problem

I've already searched but cant find anything.

My 98 sport radio has just began playing up. its ok at first when its turned on then after 3 minutes exactly it comes up ,with "Amp Clip" on the display, if you turn it off and its ok for another 3 minutes .

Any ideas??? .Or would I be better off going for a replacement aftermarket set up?

That is an oddball.
I'm going to guess there is an internal protection circuit that triggers that. Might start by checking speakers, speaker wires and any other external connections for shorts or other problems.

Does it matter how loud you run it? Notice any of the speakers at reduced volume?

Cliping in an amp is caused by current/voltage draw (more likely current)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipping_(audio)

Are you speaking of the stock amp? Have you recently replaced the speakers? If it is the stock amp it may be going bad. If you replaced the speakers you may have the ohm load to low for the amp to handle. If you have the infinity system there is an issue with replacing the stock radio because you HAVE to bypass the stock amp. There are so many variables for the amp to clip that we would need more info.

A blown speaker could also change its resistance from a normal (car audio) 4 ohms to less making the amp clip.

Its the I presume standard for the UK radio/tape/cd multichanger
codes off the build sheet are

RBLP AM/FM Cass Radio w/Changer Control
RCRP 4 Speakers

I presume the stock amp is the gizmo under the rear ,seat with 3 connectors going to it on the left?

the speakers are still, stock and are all ok and the wiring looks ok too

I believe that is the location of the amp, you can either buy a kit from metra or play fun with a solder gun to bypass the amp and install a new head

If it is the 4 speaker system there should be no amplifier. All 4 speakers are powered by the head unit, only the 6 speaker systems have an amp. The amp would be located under the rear seat and would have 2 wiring harnesses connected.

Is there audio coming from all 4 speakers before the message appears? I've seen a speaker with a bad voice coil cause problems like this.

I don't remember the amps looking like that, it could possibly be the controller for the disk changed. Also the head unit has a Chrysler logo on it and I believe that's the base model. I do have 1 question though, does that say RDS? RDS is two differant things either radio station info or radio diagnostic system which plays an important role in vehicle control. Im not sure if your model has that because its foreign. Be sure to check before you go replacing that because if it is RDS then the head will have to be relocated and kept in the system.

That little black box is the "g-switch", or decelerometer for your ABS. The arrow molded into the top pointing towards the front of the vehicle is a dead giveaway.
