So when I turn off my XJ, the radio and cigarette light do not turn off any more. I have to **** off the radio manually or pop the face plate off. This just started, I do not know if its related but it started after swapping out the head light switch.
This is a 91 XJ
The stereo is after market, but was working fine until now.
Thoughts?

I might be wrong, but I think the cig. lighter is supposed to be hot all the time. Since it's an aftermarket unit, my guess is the installer used the cig. lighter as power for the radio instead of using a Bat feed for the memory. I would check the wiring of the unit myself to verify it's hooked up correctly.JMO

And no, the cig lighter has always shut off then I turned off the Jeep...
Hmm...
But thanks!

Try turning off the dimmer on the head iight switch when you have the problem. The head light switch is always hot. Could be the wrong switch or a defect.even though it fits.

Thats odd, i would also check wiring on the back of the unit to me it sounds like the accessory wire that should turn on and off with the ignition is somehow constantly hot
I have same problem with my 96 xj sport. Somtimes radio shuts off with key sometimes it doesn't. i used this http://www.noflatbatteries.com/marine.htm
Now i don't have to worry so much about a flat battery, I think it has to do with a po's alarm system that's gone or an "always hot" wiring issue.

You have a short to power.....pull out the headlight switch and check for exposed wire in the harness and verify the integratity of the plug to the headlight switch connection

Headlight switch is good and sound with no exposed wires as far back as I can see or feel.
But now... The radio is shutting off when I turn off the Jeep, but now the dome lights are staying on... WTF???
I pulled the relay for the dome lights, and it seems to have fixed all the problems, I just don't have dome lights when I open the doors anymore. Is this connected, or yet another wiring daemon that I am going to have to find? Could all this just be that one relay gone to the dark side?

sounds like you turned your dash light dimmer too far which will put your interior lights on

Im having a similar problem. My dome lights work only with the switch and the front passenger door. It's really weired. If you come across this, let me know how you fixed it
I'm having a simular problem. My battery went dead only to find out the dome lights won't turn off. They are on a timer and have always turned off after about 30 seconds. Now they won't turn off at all. How do I correct this problem? I tried the dimmer switch on the dash but that didn't work.
