So my volume controls on my stock XJ decided that they would only work in one direction, so having the inquisitive mind that I did I tried to fiddle with it to get it to work, well since the direction that they decided to work was up, my volume ended up getting stuck very loud after it decided to quit altogether on me. Fortunately the dreaded short in the passenger side speaker happened shortly afterwards, so I used the mixing *** (??) to put sound into the dead speaker so it was bearable in the car.

This was all fine and dandy, i could listen to my tunes and not go deaf. Finally sound randomly stopped coming out of the speakers, I figured that I needed a new head unit and it couldn't be fixed, so since I'm super cheap I decided that I didn't need to listen to music anymore while I was driving.

Recently though it's been coming and going, volume slowly (it takes a couple of weeks to a month or two for a full cycle) comes and goes with still no response from the volume ***.

Anybody have a fix that doesn't include spending $50+ on a new head unit? My price limit is around $20 and I am comfortable disassembling stuff.
