I thought about it. But I was afraid that's what it would look like. Get one from a junk yard to cut up, and throw a new layer of vinyl glued over it. (that matches interior) Maybe it would look like it belonged there. But if I was going to do all that work, I be installing a 7" TFT touch screen with GPS/Nav. (I'm still waiting for the price of them to drop)

I can see why you hate that! I would try covering it with color matching vinyl and some spray adhesive. If it looked halfway decent, install a flip out head unit. (You could be the first) I suppose it's an insurance issue, (being under 18) at the junk yards. You could call JY and see if they have a dash cover. There are some junk yards here in Wisconsin. that don't let you browse through them. You have to tell them what you want, but their prices are higher. There's one about 40 miles away, that's nothing but (foreign) sports cars. (It's kinda neat) I had no idea there was that many smucked up Porsche's around here.

i think my radio has the flip out screen on it but my cherokee is an 87. i'm not sure though because i only listen to the radio so i never flip the face to put a cd in or a memory card.
i know my eclipse head unit was in my wife's 95 a long time ago and its a flip face, well, not flip but slide down so you could still see it and put in a card or cd. i didn't trim anything though. its in her liberty now and the kenwood is in the cherokee. i'll check when i get off work and let you guys know if its a flip and what it clears

see if you can flip the climate control and the head unit. That might give you the clearance you need for a flip out and could be a simple solution. That might just work.... before you go cutting stuff up. Or even better yet, I would see if I could re-route that lower airvent to the top and move the stereo to the bottom, that would give your more than enough clearance.

The dash set up of his 94 and your 98 are way different. Try switching the climate control panel with the stereo. If your able to switch them, i bet it would clear the top of the dash.

radio extender. Its like a plastic sorround that forces the radio out about another inch and is what they use to clear that lip. I have seen it done before and it looks ok but it truly is the only way to do the flip out players.
