Default Radiator swap

Newbie new to the boards, I've got a 1990 Cherokee XJ 4.0 with a closed coolant system. The plastic tank has split on the passenger side of the radiator so I need to replace the unit. I've got access to a solid open unit at no cost to me. Can I swap out the closed system radiator with an open unit without modification other than installing an overflow tank? It looks pretty straight forward to me other than where I should re-route the top and bottom hoses of the overflow bottle. Thanks I appreciate your assistance!

Yes you can, just need a 91 and newer radiator and heater control valve, the radiator will bolt un directly, the only difference is the new ones have a radiator cap.
I put the overflow tank on mine where the coolant bottle is,just removed the metal holder and cut the lip back and installed it there.
So much better than the old system

Thanks Abovetimberline, I wondered about the old heater valve. I can get a 92 heater valve and hoses at the JY no problem. I converted to a K&N so I've got room where the old filter box was to mount the overflow tank but I also like the idea of installing it where the existing pressure bottle is. Hey thanks for the reply I appreciate it.

i have a 1990 xj, and did a hcv delete yesterday without changing the radiator. i bought this radiator hose filler which is basically a radiator cap that fits into the upper hose and ran a line to the overflow tank. the heater core will last longer that way, or so i've been told.
